French Colonies Modern Forgeries

These forgeries hit the market in early 2000 and often show up in auctions with tabs and some with printer's mark. These forgeries are not very difficult to distinguish from authentic ones.
The engraving is well reproduced. Much better than Fournier.
There are bogus (nonexistent) copies
The colors are too bright
The serration is in line not comb
The paper is white, thick and modern.
The print is offset instead of typo

Not as plentiful as Fournier types but still quite numerous since it appears all the Colonies may have been forged plus several bogus ones. The problem is that given the poor images online they go unnoticed as forgeries. Here are some I found with cancels possibly to make them appear more real & increase value..

  1. My first look is always to the three most obvious Fournier mistakes. Ths forger has gotten the man's belly button and the line beneath the fruit tolerably well, but the woman's hand around the flagstaff is still not right. Also, the typeface used for the colony tablet is not quite right, it looks too neat. And the paper is a dead give away. Thanks for this information.
